You could classify me as a foot-dragging flip-flopper. Changes come in my life after lots of researching, complaining, and compromising. In fashion it sometimes happens, but only after a great deal of trend-lagging. Last summer I went to church bare footed – well, not really bare footed but with a piece of sole-shaped leather strapped between my bare toes. When this foot wear trend started, they were called thongs and they cost about $1.98 per pair. Then they were renamed flip-flops and the price jumped to more like $21.98. I have read that they were responsible for a 20 billion dollar haul during the year of 2009. I now have five pairs of brightly colored flip-flops awaiting summer time. But woe is me, my flip-flops are dowdy and 5-inch heels are in.
Anyway back to my status as a trend-lagging, foot dragger, I’m going to take my chances with what happens after the five-inch-heel sandal. Maybe the market can snazzy-up the bedroom slipper and sell it to the unsuspecting new trend setters. When that happens I plan to be sitting on ready for a fast fashion flip flop.
I want to pay tribute to wonderful people I have known, the wonderful country in which I live, the communities in which I have lived, the churches who have claimed me as their own, the God who sends shivers down my back when I really give him a portion of my time—well, maybe not shivers but tears flow easily in some of those most priceless times.
