P.J. O’ROURKE, Rolling Stone, Nov. 1989

My first blog in this series was called “Rumor or Truth” in which I used a Will Rogers quote.  Today I have chosen the quote above by another political satirist, P. J. O’Rourke, a man with quite a different world view than mine.  He also said that you have one basic human right, the right to do as you please, and one responsibility, take the consequence of your choice (my paraphrase).

Today I am going to tackle a follow-up from a promise I made in “Death Happens.”  My posts regarding death are written from the world view of a Christian, one who is a follower of Jesus Christ.  (This blog is a follow-up from Rumor or Truth, Death Happens, and I’m Glad I Did Not Die.)   I admit arguments based on the Bible may be cast aside by those who do not see the Bible as absolute Truth, the Word of God.  I told you up front that a lot of my opinion is based on faith; however there is a considerable amount of evidence to go along with it.  So what do I say about death to those who do not believe in Jesus as the Way – the route to eternal life with him in heaven?  Just this:

You are alive, a situation caused by no will of your own.

You will die, a situation caused by no will of your own.

Whether you have free will, is not caused by any will of your own.

Whether you have a spirit that will live forever, is not caused by any will of your own.

Whether there are two places, heaven or hell, is not caused by any will of your own.

Whether this is all “fair” is not caused by any will of your own.

Whether it is all hogwash is not caused by any will of your own.

Whether you play the cards you are dealt, and make a rational decision about your options, is caused by will of your own.

And I end with one word of wisdom:  Consider.

Coming Up!  Would a loving God send innocents to hell?  Join me for my argument after a few days of lighter reading to give me a running jump on a hard question.  Some might need more than one day to “consider” this blog!  And I might need more than one day to consider:  “Innocents in hell, never!”

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

I’m studying and trying to figure out how to cover that subject in the the number of words I allow myself. It is sort of a “Lord, if I ever needed you, I need you now!” I keep reminding myself I’m just grandma talking. I don’t have to sound like a great theologian but I want truth. Truth, please Jesus! I’ll get there. I’m going to a quilter’ s group tomorrow. So it can’t be tomorrow, but I plan at least by Sunday. I have about six scriptures I’m starting with. It’s late. Good night.
