Each time I sing The Solid Rock, Edward Mote, 1797-1874, I consider the meaning of the word “frame” as he used it.  “My hope is built on nothing less, Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness,  I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.”

Nancy Thanki, The Daily Post, asked that we use the word “frame” from an unusual angle.  So I’m checking out what More meant.  The following definition seem to fit his meaning.

a basic structure that underlies or supports a system, concept, or text.
“the establishment of conditions provides a frame for interpretation”
That would mean, would it not, that I dare not trust any other concept for building my hope for the future – no matter how sweet it might sound – except on the sacrifice that Jesus made for me.
How much can be lost by looking for “sweeter frames!”

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

I’m glad you identified with it. I have another one coming but my library computer time is down to six minutes so I won’t get it done today. Thanks for reading.

This was wonderful! Yes, how easy it is for our whole framework of thinking and doing to be not what God has in mind, not only for eternity, but for here and now. Father, please show me where I’m doing this!

I’ve always found that line in The Solid Rock a bit odd. But your analysis gives me a new appreciation of it. Well thought, fellow pilgrim!

I have also been a little unsure of the meaning in The Solid Rock and that particular line. Make a lot of sense now. l Thanks.

I love this! Protective, securing, strengthening, edged in beauty…yes, all the elements a frame brings to thee from He! Hugs!!
