KEEP IT SHORT

Stand up, Speak up, Shut up, Sit down.

I belong to Toastmasters, Int. and one of the hardest things for me to do is keep it short! All contest speeches are five to seven minutes.  I have to make every word significant to my message. So the advice above is crucial.  Once you get past the nervous “stand up” phase, the rest rolls along so well, being long becomes a problem, so “stand up, speak up, shut up, and sit down. I don’t know who originated this advice, but it is good.

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. 3. That’s a whole bunch of great advice given in 8 short words :_)

  4. This advice kind of helped me in an absolutely different situation though.

You’re the second person I’ve met on here who is into Toastmasters. The other one is Clare Horan from Australia. She was a huge winner there last year.
