(Picture is my granddad and grandma. I’ll tell you about Grandma’s bonnet another time.)
Hello Blogging Friends: First a personal note. I will be going to a family reunion this weekend. We will leave early Saturday morning and return late Sunday. About 350 miles away so it is possible but hurried.
I have been working on my mother’s albums – selecting pictures, newspaper articles, and such like material to make up family albums. I will take the “Rodgers/Barler” album with me. My plans are to ask anyone who wants to, to write a memory or whatever for me to add to this album, put the material on CD and give to family members.
In the process I have included some of the Granddad sermons I have summarized and put on this blog previously. I have run across a new one. I am using it for my second page of the album because it is based on a favorite song, “Only Jesus Can Satisfy Your Soul.” If my Granddad were present to speak to his family and to you, I believe that is what he would say.
Granddad’s sermon is plain from John 14:8 “Phillip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.” In the margin he has written “Church, let us see Jesus and we are satisfied.” Then he referred to Luke 12:21, which says, “So is he that layeth up treasures for himself, and is not rich toward God.” There he has written “full barns stop mule from braying, not so, with souls.”
So, Granddad, if you are in the throng of witnesses who looks down on your followers today, hear me speak for them. Thank you for your life, your lessons, and your love for Jesus. Thank you for showing us Jesus. And it is still true that only Jesus satisfies.
We suffer a dearth of seeing him in our lives and in our church while we amass “things” which only make us believe we need more things. “He’ll give you peace you never knew, Sweet joy and love and Heaven too; For only Jesus can satisfy your soul.” (Only Jesus can Satisfy Your Soul by Lanny Wolfe.)
One more thing I’m sure he would say. “THERE IS GOING TO BE A MEETING IN THE AIR IN THE SWEET SWEET BY AND BY.” Family, can’t you see his tears today just thinking about us all being together again. Granddad’s tears, who of us who knew him can ever forget!
Awesome that you are putting those albums together!!! What a legacy. Have a great and safe time!
I’m happy about it. This way I can give CD’s which do not cost nearly as much as printed and they will likely be valued more by others since they will not take up so much space. Hope so, anyway. Thanks for the blessing. 😀
OOOOoo!! Good idea!
What a great project, and how nice that you’re going to be able to share it in this way. Safe travels — I’ll look forward to hearing more about it when you get back.
Thanks. I’ll be back next week. 😀
What a wonderful project. A labor of love. ❤
Thank you. Hope I get response. I’m sure lots of people will appreciate one but I wanted more response from some who would write some memory or something. I think everybody does not have a “writing bug.” 😀 Maybe they will tell me some stories and I can write them.
What an incredible legacy you have. Nothing quite as profound in my life but how I value your sharing. Blessings and Grace and have a wonder time away.
I hope everybody knows I am ever so grateful. Sometimes I wonder if I do too much of those kind of blogs, but so far readers seem to like them. There are so many who did not have the advantages I have had, but really they are available to everybody who decides to put Christ first in his life, family, church and community. I do know it is hard to go against the flow. Our nation needs prayer to turn or value system back to simple please of home and Christ. Thanks, Faye.
beautiful 🙂
Thank you, dear lady.
That’s a beautiful project you’ve undertaken. I love reunions and hope you had a great time.
Yes, it was a nice together time. Those of us who have stable families are among the most blessed of the world. That deadline met me with a satisfactory amount of work completed – most of the grandparents stories and some of my parents. I have much more to do. Hope I don’t slack off too much now that the reunion is not keeping me working at a fevered pitch!
I don’t believe I’ve ever heard that song. Will have to pull it up on Youtube! What a wonderful project you’ve embarked on, Oneta!
Hope you will enjoy it. And the “There is Going…..” is also a song. Try them out. They are quite different. I like many kinds of gospel songs – just about everything from “Bluegrass” to Handel’s Messiah! I’m critical of a lot of modern songs because I cannot hear the words well – generally too much instrumental “noise” to please me. Some of it is my fault, however, because I am having some hearing problems – age related – much to my sorrow. But it is not too bad yet.
Such a sweet way to share such treasured memories. And What an immeasurable gift you will leave for generations (to come) to enjoy!
I have really enjoyed the things I have learned since undertaking this project. But it is a biggie, for sure! I mostly have the grandparents completed and the early lives of my parents. I’ll probably be able to blog some of the ventures they had along the way. I’m considering it anyway. I do hope it will be of value to my younguns. 😀
What a great idea to put the family pictures together.Lovely.!👍😊
Thank for you kind response.
