SHADES OF MATT DILLON

hitching post

“Help me, Matt.  Oh, hurry, please help,” came the sobbing cries of poor Kitty as her buggy slid to the side of the road.

“Why, Kitty, darlin’, whatever is your need.  Just hook up there to that hitching post and let me see how I can help.”

Psalm 18:2  ” The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”

One day as I was reading this scripture, I began thinking of those words David used – rock, fortress, buckler, horn.  What word might I use today that is comparable to  express what David was saying?  As I was mulling over this question and trying out the image I wanted to convey, I said, “Lord, you are … are … you are my hitching post!”

So here at the end of 2017, again I am reminded that God is my hitching post.  I’m hitched up, I’m going nowhere else.  The new year makes no change in where I remain hitched. 😀

If you are feeling lost and unsteady, tie up to that hitching post right there beside me.

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

Love this! What a perfect word….hitching post! Thank you for the words of inspiration .

  2. Ha! I love it Oneta. He’s our Hitching Post indeed, with a side of Matt Dillon thrown in for good measure. God is good that way.

A bit funny, I am often Miss Kitty in these parts, a nick name that has stuck with me since high school. Why ,I don’t know, probably has something to do with always sliding my buggy off the road.

  3. Oh, I LOVE this! I loved “Gunsmoke”… what a fun show! And this analogy is just perfect! God is our anchor, our hitching post! God bless you, Oneta! ❤
