BUCK UP, GET WITH IT!

2018

How is this for a New Year’s Resolution?

I Cor. 16:13, 14  “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men (women) of good courage; be strong.  Do everything in love.”

“Be on your guard” Remember the devil is not likely to attack full force on big issues; he is much more likely to sneak up on little things we don’t think much about.  Don’t become unbalanced with any one thing to the detriment on other important matters.

“Stand strong in the faith” Don’t listen to the “voices of the earth.” Heed Bible doctrines.  Don’t be a wimp!

“Be a woman of courage” Take risks in Jesus; he is wonderfully exciting. I mostly miss the excitement when I don’t take any chances. What would it matter if I am rejected when I say to the hapless “Jesus loves you”! What if I took a stranger to MacDonald’s for a meal? Could I even call that courage?

“Be strong” Being strong includes taking care of myself – physically, mentally, spiritually; so get some exercise, eat right, do some puzzles, take on a new Bible challenge.  Buck up about the cataract surgery.  Millions have done it, I can too.  😀

“Do everything in love” – Put myself out to do a “good deed” for every age level. I rue the division of the generations, but I generally don’t do much about it. Go to the mall, smile at the teens, sit by one. She might even stay put to see what I will say!

HAPPY 2018, DEAR ONES!

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

You are a saint, dear one, passing around all the good words. So glad to be a receiver. (Oh. no, that word “receiver” made me think of the game again! I’m in Oklahoma; you’ve got to know what game I mean!)

Wonderful encouraging resolution for 2018. Thank you. May you hold fast to this in the experiences of your own life journey. off I will go into the day energised and looking for the connections only HE can forge. Love and blessings to you.

As I said to salvageable, it’s scripture. One can’t miss unless it is ignored. I’m joking around, but I am humbled at my lack of will power on my own. I must have Him. Hope you are getting help you need, Faye. I pray for you most days.

  8. Debbie L says:

    Amen!!! Good ones!

  9. Steph McCoy says:

Happy New Year!! Cataract surgery is a breeze and afterward you’ll be amazed at the difference in clarity.

    • oneta hayes says:

Thank you. Steph. I’m told I will be happy with it. I just feel like new prescription would help instead, but I guess not. I’m eighty-three; that means a whole bunch of my peers have already had it (including my husband); none have had regrets. I was secretary to the Supervisor of Services for the Blind in the 50s.. Cataracts was the cause of a lot of total blindness at that time. The surgery is a wonderful medical break for us at this time. I’m thankful.

      • Steph McCoy says:

Oh wow I didn’t know that you worked for Services for the Blind. Yes I can see how cataracts would have been a problem back in the day and adding to it was the surgery itself was more invasive than it is today. Even with my little bit of sight once I had the cataracts removed the very first thing I noticed was so much more light coming into the eye and for that I’m eternally grateful. You’ll also notice how vibrant colors are. How soon are you having your procedure if you don’t mind my asking?

        • oneta hayes says:

Left eye on January 23; right two weeks later. That’s wonderful about the colors; I constantly complain about my glasses dulling colors. I guess it is not the glasses doing it. I’ve been trying t think of some of the doctors we used then. They were pretty much on the cutting edge in cataracts for this area, I think. A long time ago. We also had success with corneal implants and retina surgery.

          • Steph McCoy says:

I’ll have to check back to see how your fare and I’ll say a prayer for you. I’ve has several retina surgeries to repair macular holes and unfortunately my last surgery in 2009 didn’t go so well as a blood vessel broke which left scarring. When I went to Cleveland Clinic they explained that Vitrectomies are very delicate surgeries and sometimes the outcome isn’t as expected. My high myopia added to the complications. I’m so thankful that I had an excellent retina specialist. He was able to stop the bleeding with an injection of Avastin however my right eye has no functional vision.

            • oneta hayes says:

Wow, I’m glad he could control the damage. I understand retina surgery is still very fragile. Thanks for the prayers. They do make a difference. They tell me my astigmatism could be corrected at the same time, but Medicare doesn’t pay so I will still have to have correction for that. Nice to share some chat time with you, Steph.

              • Steph McCoy says:

I’ve enjoyed our chat as well Oneta. I’ve never understood astigmatism but then again there’s so much at the eye I don’t understand however it is a fascinating organ. I received implants when I had my cataract surgery even though the procedure didn’t give me more vision the light difference was amazing.

This blog is inspiring and let know that god likes us to take risk when it comes to him but he also likes us to be humble with him.

    • oneta hayes says:

Yes, you are so right. I don’t want to risk anything in my own puny efforts. I’m not very risky even with him. But he is a joy to walk with and be a friend with. I don’t remember having met you, Tanasia. I will be over later.
