The crush, the victory and the passion displayed by Christ’s death on the cross is heavy on me this morning.
Charles Dickens: “Bearing his Cross, upon his shoulder, like the commonest and most wicked criminal, our blessed Saviour, Jesus Christ, surrounded by the persecuting crowd, went out of Jerusalem to a place called in the Hebrew language, Golgotha, that is, the place of a skull. And being come to a hill called Mount Calvary, they hammered cruel nails through His hands and feet and nailed Him to the Cross, between two other crosses on each of which, a common thief was nailed in agony.”
Thank you seems so insufficient to express the crush of my heart when I read of the price Christ paid. I say thank you for a peanut butter sandwich or for a chair pulled out for me to sit on or for someone saying they like my dress. Surely there is a better way to say thank you to the Lord! How can I express my emotion relating to your sacrifice? Lord, let me give you me – not just my words – but all of me. And I realize that that is still nothing except for what you have helped me to be.
A release of this kind of praise and thankfulness is one function of the Holy Spirit when one “speaks in other tongues.”
I Corinthians 14:2 (NIV) “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”
Amen! Well said.
Blessings, grace and peace.
Thank you – and I accept your blessing via our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Lord, let me give you me – not just my words – but all of me.
What a wonderful grace filled post Oneta!
Thank you, Faye. We serve a wonderful Lord.
Thank you Oneta for making us think. We could never thank Him enough for dying for us.
Thank you, dear long time friend, for this response. Even at our best we can only return to him what he has given to us.
Thank you dear one. This has been expressed so profoundly and simply in this post and cuts through all the sometimes unnecessary. if we truly LOVE Him and are thankful for what He actually did at Calvary , indeed may we be truly ‘surrendered’ then all the Gifts of His Holy Spirit can flow over in and through our lives as He Wills and always according to the Word. Blessings! and Divine Strength to you.
Thanks for your confirmation. Nothing is so calming, precious, and satisfying as a commitment to Jesus and time spent at his feet.
Now and then I speak in tongues — depending on how mad I am at his nibs! (Sorry…A little religious humor!) I just figure gratefulness is the catalyst of prayer. And God likes prayer best of all…
My vocabulary is sufficient with my husband; the decibel zone changes however. 😀
It is almost beyond belief that one can really have prayer (conversation) with God. True however. And we can do it at the same time – you in your place and me in mine. Thanks for the comment.
