Perceived conversation:
“Did you get a letter from Johnny?”
“Yes.”
“Where is he?”
“I don’t know.”
“How long will he be gone?”
“I don’t know.”
“Is he injured?”
“I don’t know.”
“Is he in active fighting?”
“I don’t know.”
“I’m glad you got the letter.”
“I am too. I know he loves me.”

*********** A picture on my wall. If there is a signature, it is under the matting and I can’t see it, The picture speaks to me of thanks I owe to the “waiters” as well as the fighters.

ABOUT ME
Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...
fighting and waiting…seems to sum up the cycle of mankind
Makes us think of Solomon’s wisdom “Vanity, vanity, all is vanity.” Except, of course, remembering God in one’s youth. I’m sure that give us right to assume that knowing God will add the missing ingredient to one’s life.
The waiting, before there was internet, must have been terrible. I cannot imaging having a child fighting in a war and letters being the only way to communicate.
That’s true. Even with letter in hand, one’s loved one might still have seen death days before notification. Thanks for the comment.
Very powerful Oneta
Thank you, Rupali.
The cycle of mankind indeed! What about all the animals? Dogs. Horses. and on rural farms etc even cows and birds and ???? waiting, endlessly waiting for here (in Oz) many thousands never came home. Farms and townships were bereft for generations. World War 1 destroyed not just human lives ……. but wars keep happening. Thank God for the Hope in Eternity which ever rises above it all. LEST WE FORGET!
