CAN I BE GOOD ENOUGH?

thank you 2019

A few months ago I had a dream in which in was sitting in a church auditorium and watched as children and some adults were ascending stairways on each side of the church.  I realized that the rapture (catching away of the church) was happening and I was not going.  I was left with some other people in the church.  I was troubled, I said,  “Lord, I’m counting on your blood to save me.  I have no other way.”

When I awoke,  I meditated on the meaning of the dream, because I was/am convinced that I am saved by the blood of Jesus and that I will go with him when he calls. I believe I know the reason for the dream.  I have always been a “do something” kind of person; I have a reputation for “doing” good deeds (My reputation is better than the real “me.”)  I believe the dream was a test to see if I really counted on Jesus or did I count on my good deeds.  I am so thankful that even in that test, I just humbly bowed to my dependence on Jesus.  No good that I have done can save me.  Only Jesus.  ***************

The following is an excerpt from a page on my menu,  Jehovah-tsidkenu, Our Righteousness.

“Many modern American Christians have a concept of righteousness that portrays positive traits such as honesty, virtuousness, behaving well, and avoiding evil and temptations of the flesh.  Among some Christians, that can be summed up in the statement “We don’t drink, smoke, or chew, and we don’t run around with those who do.”   That philosophy will lead to better health and good living, but it falls short of being the righteousness of God.

Neither good deeds nor sacrifice will make one righteous.  Thus, the need for Jehovah-tsidkenu – THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS!  No other will do.

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

  1. I remember reading this one— it grabbed me by the shoulders then, it grabbed me this morning

“No others will do” – seriously? I shall be waiting for you in hell to continue our lively discussion, once this journey is over, over a glass of ice tea or cold coffee or who knows if it is an Indian hell, may be over a tall glass of mango lassi😂

Pranab, being a Christian means I believe Jesus is the Way to Eternal Life. How much would you respect me if I tried to hide that belief? If I have even once compromised that belief, forgive me. So far I do not really know what you believe. If you believe I will spend eternity in hell, tell me what you think I should do to avoid that destiny. I will consider your way – then stick with what I believe, most probably. 😀

      • pranabaxom says:

If I would not have respected you, would I have loved to keep in contact with you.
Pardon my French but vive ls diffetence😂

      • pranabaxom says:

You already told me if I don’t follow your way, hell waits me, so I will wait for you in hell😊

        • oneta hayes says:

I have never told you that you are going to hell. You know that; not I. You tell me regularly that you are. I don’t condemn anyone to hell. It only takes an instant for a person to call on Jesus. He cared enough to die; he surely will not turn one away.

          • pranabaxom says:

That’s how you are telling me that I am going to hell😭 as you know that I am not going to call on anyone to deliver me to heaven. I am very happy with what is given to me here (though we have collectively made sure to converts our heaven on earth to hell).

      • pranabaxom says:

You want to know what I really believe. I believe in the basic goodness of people. Left alone, I believe each of us will be able to connect to that inherent goodness in us. Unfortunately the clean slate that each of us is born with gets spoiled pretty soon by all vested interests.

        • oneta hayes says:

I believe also that it is important to be “good.” I just do not believe good is good enough. I believe in a just God who does not balance the scale for one’s eternal life based on goodness. The clean slate belief is an enigma to me because I do believe in eternal salvation for all babies and those to young an unable to know. But when one decides to sin (do evil), surely he is accountable to someone or something. The Bible teaches that all men of Adam’s race are born in sin because of Adam’s choice. I’m thankful for the Bible (my guideline) for a standard to live (judge) by. There you have made me end a statement with a preposition. That’s according to my old fashioned English grammar text books. 😀
I follow them even when I don’t really know why or started such rules. I don’t think it came from the Bible. 😀

          • pranabaxom says:

How to not commit biblical sin if one believes in go forth and multiply😊. Unless ofcourse the world resorts to test tube babies but then some other sin will definitely be committed. Though I do not myself subscribe to the sin in Garden of Eden, I am glad if that was committed. Otherwise I would have been deprived of the pleasure of going head to head with you. 😊 Or who knows, virgin births may have been perfected by now.

  3. I love this one so much, Oneta. It’s beautiful. I am a bit of a Martha, Martha, Martha, dashing about and trying to do stuff, and God is forever having to remind me, nope, nothing but the blood of Jesus. Rest at His feet, adore Him, stop stressing out. Mary has chosen the better way. 🙂

    • oneta hayes says:

Isn’t it wonderful that the Lord loved Martha, too. But I guess she did scurry away from his presence too often. Just thought the guys would get upset if dinner wasn’t ready on time. 😀

  4. ONLY JESUS is not completely true. When reading what Jesus says about the matter in Matthew 7 and Matthew 25 and Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 its clear that Jesus is looking for more than him giving you salvation. While I do believe being Born again is a work of God, people who think they can buy in with no change of heart are sadly mistaken. Have we not done this or that, He says, I don’t know you. And for those who did not do this or that, they didn’t do it and are goats and are also excluded. Paul says if you give your body to be burned or give all you have to the poor but have not love you have nothing.
My point is, people can spend their lives serving in the church, out of duty, out of pride or wanting approval rather than from a born again heart which loves, which is loyal to Jesus. So , Only Jesus needs to be qualified. We only get because we surrender to Christ and he washes us. If we are not given over to him, no number of crosses will save us, we are still alienated from God. Everyone loves John 3:16 but they do not research or read the 3 verses either side of it. And those are Jesus’ words.

    • oneta hayes says:

I agree wholeheartedly. In fact, I felt like I should follow up with a post about salvation means Christ reigns within. If there is a change inside the cup, there will be evidence outside. From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh. What is inside will show outside. I do not feel it is my place to judge others on the basis of their works but I believe everyone who professes the name of Christ, should judge himself on his own works and attitudes (fruit of the Spirit). If there is no change, he needs to go back to the cross!

    Wow!That’s indeed a great message for so many.Thanks a lot for sharing.🌹🙏

  6. Faye says:

Thank you for this post and the reminder you have shared here. I have passionately this Christmas been posing the same question.
Will I ever be good enough?. Will you? The answer is NO! yet, because of the Cross and the Sacrifice thereon His shed Blood is our covered over life if we continue to cling to Christ and repent of ongoing sins and failures. The blood covering was in the Old Testament splattered over the door posts (before the Exodus from Egypt), The Angel of death KNEW who belonged to the Lord. In our day….when the rapture of the Church comes and (It is written it will come!) only the believers in Christ who are ‘covered by the Blood of the Lamb of God’ will be taken UP. No one on their own or by good works etc etc and how holy they may be trying to be, will ever be ‘good enough’ to face an intricately HOLY and RIGHTEOUS GOD. Covered by the Blood of the lamb. That’s why He was born sinless to SAVE THE WHOLE WORLD. Not just the Jewish Nation. 2020 Focus all your heart and your life SONWARDS. He was born to SAVE THE PEOPLE from their sins. Thank you Oneta sorry if this became like a sermon the truth is I too had a dream like you shared, but I woke with the words Only through the BLOOD. 2020 focus SONWARDS. A-men. A-men . and thank you again for what you wrote. xx

  7. Jadah says:

I often have dreams about the rapture, I don’t know for sure if I will be going. I don’t feel close to God anymore and I know that is my fault. I don’t read my bible like I should and it feels like I only pray at night or when things get bad. I need to surround myself with good people. I want to be closer to God, I think now is the best time for that! The Lord is coming back soon and I want to be ready!

    • oneta hayes says:

You are honest in describing your relationship, or lack of relationship, with the Lord. He regards and loves truth. Psalms 51:17 says: “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” He will not turn away from the truth you expressed to me. But you do have to tell Him the problem. He does hear and care. It will then take discipline to do the things you know to do. Doing that, however, offers great reward in this life and in eternal life. Thank you for reading and commenting. The things you have expressed might be of real help for other readers. Blessings on you, Jadah, as you seek his face. I think you would benefit by reading my material on the Jehovah Names if you have time. Check the topics on my home page.
