HABAKKUK, GOD, AND ME #3

Random thoughts regarding environment and choice jewels from Habakkuk.

Responsibility to the environment, 2:17.

“The violence you have done to Lebanon will overwhelm you and your destruction of animals will terrify you, for you have shed man’s blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.”

We conservatives sometimes take a bad rap about what is perceived as our attitude toward the environment. I reject that perception. Some, including me, reject some theories regarding the environment. Particularly, the panic concerning global warming. God has set in motion natural principles that will ensure seasons come and go. There will be springtime and harvest.

Obviously there are natural forces that cause erosion, freezing, melting, all contributing to changes in land and sea. He assigned men to care for the enviorment. And we take that responsibility seriously. However, history and science proves that men and animals are adaptable to change. Some do not survive. Just as dinosaurs have not survived.

It is hilarious to me that the same people who panic over the thought of a two degrees raise in temperature also believe people came from some a one celled ameba in a blog someplace. That’s some ability to adapt!

Notice God’s word above. He is disturbed that people have not properly cared for the land or the animals. But the ultimate evil from all their plunder of the land was the resultant death of people – cities and everyone in them. If one ignores, neglects, or ravages land and animals, there will be no food. So we do care for the environment.

PERSONAL TESTIMONY – SINGING HABAKKUK’S SONG:

Sammy and I used to sing this song based on 3:17,18 “I Will Praise Him” I cannot find the composer, but his/her song has been a blessing to me.

If the fields refuse a harvest and the trees no longer bear,
If the flocks forsake their shepherd, and my head be bowed with care;
Yet I know His ways are wondrous, With this man made out of dust.
And these lips of clay shall praise Him, Tho' the world be turned to rust!
I will praise Him, yes, I'll praise Him,
There will be a better day.
There will be a bright tomorrow
      God will never pass away.
If the roses lose their fragrance, If the birds no longer sing
If the rivers cease their flowing And the bells refuse to ring;
Still I know that God's in heaven And I know that all is well.
So my lips will sing His praises And the gospel story tell!

If my body suffer torments, Does not He, my Master, know
Who am I to ask the potter, why he made the vessel so?
And if wealth and friends forsake me, Be my home an empty room,
Yet I'll stand and call Him blessed, For the triumph o'er the tomb!

CHOICE JEWELS FOR MEMORY:

“The Lord is in his Holy Temple, so all the earth should be silent in his presence.” 2:20

“The Lord God gives me my strength.  He makes me like a deer, which does not stumble.”

“In wrath, remember mercy”  3:2

“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.”  2:14

“…but the just shall live by his faith.” 2:4

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

Although I don’t recall the song, the lyrics to “I Will Praise Him” seem true to Habakkuk and the Gospels and are what I think of when reading Habakkuk.

Beautiful post Frank. I loved your hymn.

Sorry, wrong blog. Beautiful post Oneta. 😂

  4. Salvageable says:

Yes, we are caretakers of creation, not to damage and destroy but to tend and nurture. We will disagree at times about what care is best, but so long as our attitude is that of servants and not lords, we are following God’s plan. J.

Issues of Climate change which as people who love God need to be looked at honestly. Unfortunately there is also a politically driven agenda of fear driven (often driven by a generation who have not lived through enough of the past and seen previous climate erratic behaviours.) and who have no ‘love of God’ in his WORLD but believe it is up to them to fix what is perceived as WRONG.
In a country like Australia in my life of seeing devastating floods that took out 1/2 the landscape followed by drought that burnt up the rest I know the truth of climate ‘instability’ and threats of change. It was a new ICE AGE in the 60’s IN THE 70’s ,,,,,,Prepare to be taken over by ice melting and all sinking back into the sea,.
Folks everywhere need to be prayerfully caring for our planet but not driven by the constantly changing politics Agendas which have no ‘higher’ focus than ‘self’ knowledge and grandstanding.
I have a beautiful Auzzie Aboriginal friend – a born-again Christian Pastor – who struggles to be heard ie because he is a Christian! He once told a Prime Minister……’.for 40,000 years before the Bible was even written our people lived and survived here. When we heard the message of the Cross all our searching for spititual understanding and not a serpent but a God in Heaven WHO is Spirit but became a man to die for US…………All things became clear but now……………IN 2020 Folks are telling us that the climate is killing us but will not take any advice about tree planting and controlled burn off’s and restricting mining , saving the animals etc etc etc from my people but get in the experts from the UN who do not even know what an echidna is. Nevertheless, GOD is building HIs Heavenly Kingdom,,,,,,,I will live with HIM there’.,
    I say a-men.
I thank you Oneta for Habakkuk reflections. Apologies to ALL for my comment but this stuff fuels me, JESUS is LORD! All the struggles should be over but politics is destroying our peace.

“politics is destroying our peace.” Yes. By design. I certainly agree about controlled burn offs and tree planting, but I don’t know what restricting mining means. Animals are important and should be respected as God’s creation, and treated with compassion, but they are not to be honored above men. If it is a choice between a hoot owl and a human, the hoot owl can bite the dust. See I am sort of joking here, but some people will be offended. That politics.
