IF WISHES…

Obviously I cheated a bit by running over to gettyfreeimages.com and getting a picture. But that move was not planned until I chose my topic, “If wishes were horses, beggers could ride.” I wish I could remember the rest of the verse. I’m hampered from doing so because that really doesn’t fit in a Stream of Consciousness writing. Or does it? No, I don’t think so.

For my first “if” I am reminded of the classic Miss America question that goes something like this, “If you had three million dollars, what would you do with it?” Miss America contestant responds, “I would feed all the hungry children in the world.” I go, “What, with three million dollars, you could hardly feed the hungry children on one continent.” Well that comes with having to have a budget, which most Miss America contestants have not yet experienced.

My second “if” – “So, Oneta, Miss Wisecrack, if you have three million dollars, what would you do with it?” Humm? That takes some thinking. First slice, taxes, second slice, tithes. There is a healthy hunk left. I would give to Two for Tunnels. Is that what it is called? Some charity that pleads for $11 a month. I don’t give to them now but I could no doubt find eleven a month to spare, so what makes me think I will give to them, if I have more. Answer is that I don’t give to any charity that I do not know about. I want my charity to go to the mission not the administrators. So let’s say I would check them out to see how much really goes to disabled veterans.

Now I have done my civic duties. Now what? I would pay off my kids house mortgages. I would buy a new car. I hate changing cars so I am only willing to do it one more time. I would have to buy one that will last the rest of my life. That might be a problem since I don’t know how long we will have gasoline engines.

This is getting long so I’ll just invite those of you who have read this far to send me your name and telephone number for a grand drawing of $500 bucks, Then the rest I will keep for little goodies along my way. If I go broke, I have your phone number; you will be hearing from me as I beg for just $11 a month.

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

It’s “Tunnels to Towers,” and it’s a great charity. I can’t quite remember the details, but I think the fellow who began it did so in honor of a relative (father? brother?) who ran through the tunnels back to the Twin Towers on 9/11.

Pranab, I’m not sure whether you were in Sallisaw last night (Sunday) or will be tonight (Monday). However, if you are leaving Sallisaw on Hwy 40 going west, you will be within five miles of my house. You are welcome, and wanted, to come by for a visit. If you go south out of Sallisaw, you would be on Hwy 59, that would miss me. We would love to have you drop by.

I am going to Amarillo, Texas tomorrow by I-40 west. So yes, I am going west. Just arrived at Sallisaw. Will definitely love to give you a bear hug.

As you are driving west away from the main OKC area, you will pass these streets: McArthur, Rockwell, Council, Morgan. On Morgan, you will turn south (left), go straight south about five miles, to the main street of Mustang (Hwy 152). There is a Dollar General Store on SW corner, continue on three blocks to Pleasantview Lane. We are on the corner lot. If you are using a GPS, put in 1716 East Pleasantview Lane, Mustang, OK. Simple as pie. Pie? Sorry, you know I’m not a cook. But I can probably rustle up something similar. We are in and out flexibly. I have nothing I cannot change in order to be here when you arrive. I haven’t hones my spear but I have a fly swatter or ruler that might serve to greet you. 😀 Phone 405-745-3655

Yes, taxes and tithe first (or should it be the other way around?) and then pay off debts, including the children’s student loans. Buy some of those books that have been on my wish list but keep getting skipped when people shop for me at birthday and Christmas, and put the rest aside to supplement retirement funds. Easy as pie. J.

In this case where there is no outgo for the money, tithes first. Right. When one works for a wage (gross) but never sees some of it, nor has a say about it (net), I leave to the individual. Granted, however, one cannot outgive God. If I get returned taxes, I tithe on them. People who get IRA’s and such, have a decision to make. I don’t think I paid on money withheld by Teachers Retirement. But I do pay on the retirement I receive now. I remember “in whatsoever measure, you measure, it will be measured unto you.” Sensible, fair, honest, and blessed. But you wouldn’t pay mortgages for you kids. I would, but I only have two, and they live sensibly. 😀
