Bloganuary Prompt Day 5 What is something you wish you knew how to do? I wrote the following rhyme a couple of years ago. It was posted on this blog in April, 2019. It is mostly fiction since my parents did not get a piano until after I left for college and I have three siblings instead of four. My two sisters play the piano and my brother played the guitar. My wish from long ago: I wish I had learned to play the piano.
Though purchased for me in ‘53
it was chipped as you can see
and I wanted new so I pouted;
“I won’t touch it,” I screamed and shouted.
Sibling one – thought it was fun;
Sibling two – mastering keys, his fingers flew;
Sibling three – practiced with glee;
Sibling four – played a complex score.
—I know now, I didn’t win, as I ponder what might have been.
ABOUT ME
Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...
Hope it will be possible for you to take up the dream and have fun with it. I think it is good for old hands, on old ladies in retirement homes or senior centers. Start to work and be ready to outdo them. You don’t have to live in one to volunteer and have fun. Those like me will love it. We have two ladies at our senior center who play beautifully and the listeners always enjoy.
I want to pay tribute to wonderful people I have known, the wonderful country in which I live, the communities in which I have lived, the churches who have claimed me as their own, the God who sends shivers down my back when I really give him a portion of my time—well, maybe not shivers but tears flow easily in some of those most priceless times.
We have a piano at home and I wish I could play.
You’re young, go for it. Find some online lessons to begin. You’ll have fun.
Thank you for your vote of confidence. I am no spring chicken 😂.
I really will like to do it.
Yay for you!
🙂 I wish I hadn’t quit piano lessons, but I thought I had better things to do as a teen.

Thanks! Yes, when I worked at a retirement home the residents did love when the piano was played.
We will see. 🙂
I would also like to know how to play the piano. Someday I will.
