Genesis 42: 1 When Jacob learned that there was grin in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why do you just keep looking at each other. I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some….
In other words “Somebody do something!” I am hard put to be happy with the leadership exhibited in any of America’s institutions. Where is leadership for families? For churches? For schools? For the local government? For the national government?
My version of what Jacob said in the verse above, “We are not getting anything done, as long as we are just talking about the problem.”
Which of you can take command? A hard question. Most of us do not have the traits of a great leader. Thankfully most people know themselves and stay out of the way when leaders are needed.
We are nearing a time to select a new President, so I ask myself
What do I want in a President? (You can change the pronoun to “she” if you like.)
He should be bold enough to make a decision; and bold and humble enough to admit if he is wrong.
He should be committed to see that everybody on the sinking ship is off before he leaves the ship.
He should use all resources to keeping his country safe and secure; still he should ask for help if he cannot do it.
He should be honest and open with his people up to the point of giving aid to their enemy, then he should know how to say “no comment.” He does not give the enemy advance information.
He should honor God and recognize that his own authority only goes as far as God ordains it to go.
“He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.” 2 Samuel 23:3-4 (from the Last Words of David, KJV for the artistry of the language)
Sad to say this is the will of God, but as in most things, God gives in to the will of man a lot of times. Scripture makes that plan when the Israelites demanded a king.
I meant God makes that “plain” …
Does such a candidate exist? I pray that he/she does.
There is not a man or woman who has those traits – unless he/she starts with the last point. Michael Wilson has a great post today about their desire to use weakness to enhance his (God’s) glory. I would tell God today he has a weak man to start with – the President of our country. 😀
But are we weak when we do not confess our weakness?
No the right kind of weak. That may be the reason we are not being delivered.
Good point.

Thank you.
