TOO NICE TO CALL “EATING DAISIES” SIN

Following up from yesterday’s blog post about David’s obedience to God’s direct message to him, but how much he had to suffer for the times he “did it his own way.” He ate the daisies and had to suffer the bellyache!

God did not give specific rules for many of the challenges we encounter day by day. But he did institute a the Church to “point out the daisies.” I make this statement based on Matthew 18:19. I know there are different interpretations of this scripture but my belief is that “the church” should act as an authority to distinguish right from wrong – bind and loose – moral issues.

A simple example. Much of the church world had issues with smoking tobacco long before “science” caught up and proved the harm done to the body by that habit. The Bible does not say “don’t” smoke tobacco. Most of the church world now warns against smoking marijuana. Science will catch up after years of watching results of that “daisy.”

The Bible does not say “don’t abort your baby.” But most of us “church folks” have sense enough to know that is an abomination to God.

How about some of these daisy bowls which God probably thinks “his church” should be warning against.

Don’t drink alcohol.

Don’t take anything into your body which alters your mind.

Don’t gamble.

Don’t watch porn.

Don’t smash store windows.

Don’t wear blouse tops that have sleeveless arm holes that drop to the waist. The same thing applies to men.

Does the church not still have the duty to teach the pitfalls which Satan designs?

There really are a lot of things we do that the church should be up in arms against. Instead we point out that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament and the only law now is to love God and your neighbor as yourself.

And God’s “church” is much too nice to call daisies, “sin.

Ezekiel 3:17 Ezekiel, son of man, I have appointed you to stand watch for the people of Israel. So listen to what I say, then warn them for me.

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

Does the bible says to keep the boys to keep their pants zippered?
Abortion will be a non-issue if that is followed.

A bouquet of wisdom in your past several posts, Oneta. Hugs to you and blessings upon you for the fragrant way you call these truths to light. 💐

Anita and I are reading Isaiah right now in the Complete Jewish Bible for our evening devotions. It is amazing how much of his first 20 chapters or so could be prophecies about modern nations.
Fortunately, God has not forgotten how to save any who trust in Jesus from His wrath. Romans 5:1-11.

Didn’t Paul say the Old Testament was a schoolmaster? From it, we learn a lot of ways to please and to displease God. If we ignore many of its teachings, we do so at our own loss.

Yes. I know a brother in Christ who said he doesn’t read the OT because he thinks there is too much that goes against science. (!!😲!!)
So sad when someone limits oneself to only part of Father’s blessings and guidance.

True science is absolutely true because God made it that way! Science did not make God. I guess every atheist would say that. They say our “imaginations” made God. So much of the OT confirms the truth of the NT. The Bible says “the fool…there is no God” so I guess there are really fools who believe that. NT calls it “blindness.”

I can tell you first hand the effects of smoking tobacco because I smoked for 42 years and nearly died twice in 2015 because of it. What most people do not understand is how strong that addiction is, but it is harder to quit than cocaine. I started smoking as a 12 year old child and my mother allowed it. Alcohol flowed freely in our home and the only discipline was if you got on mom’s wrong side for any reason then there was hell to pay. I do not have an addictive personality I think because I watched how it destroyed my mom and nearly me and my sister who were often in the crossfire of her anger. At age 14 I told her if she ever hit me again I would run away again, but she would never see me again and I half expected her to say do it, but she didn’t.
I think that some drugs are allowed for medical purposes like I have chronic pain and if it wasn’t for things like muscle relaxers I would be bed ridden and even with them I cannot stand much more than 5 minutes. I used to take prescription opioids, but after about 5 years I detoxed myself off them because I feel they do much more harm than good. I never missed them and later found a better way to manage the pain aspect.
I always tell people Jesus is a gentleman and will respect your freewill to destroy yourself if that is what you wish to do. We know morally what is right and wrong, As for abortion it is something I am passionate about stopping and women have as much responsibility in stopping it as men do. My mom always said a woman can run faster with her skirt up than a man can with his pants down. Yes, I know there are things like rape, but isn’t ironic the man gets to live his life often without a jail sentence and the innocent baby gets the death penalty.

    • oneta hayes says:

Men and women are both guilty unless the man has done everything legal to take full responsibility. Skirt up, pants down is funny. You are a remarkable lady.

Why thank you Oneta I think you are pretty remarkable too and I feel we probably have a lot in common. My mom had a lot of odd sayings that are forever burned into my grain. She taught me and my sister this odd rhyme that I have no idea where it came from, but I don’t remember a time I didn’t know it. She called it One Dark Night and it went like this.
One dark night when it was light
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other
The stone deaf farmer heard the noise got up and killed the two dead boys
If you don’t believe this lie is true ask the blind man he saw it too
Why she embedded that in our heads I have no idea and she never said where it came from.

    • oneta hayes says:

I’ve never heard that. Sounds like British humor; like something my husband’s family would say. Four minutes to midnight here. I’m off to bed. Rest well as I plan to do. 😀

  6. jsneese62 says:

It could be British I need to do another search for it some time. I am off for a couple hours myself don’t get much more than that here and there at night.
