The following selection is from a Facebook status written by my nephew, Teral Crawford. Teral retired last month. How the years have flown by! Enjoy his memories of the kind of life my mom and dad provided.
What’s on my mind is my Grandad Pete and my Grandma Amy’s farm and ranch place in Colorado.
The past few nights when I go to bed, I begin reminiscing to times roughly 50 years ago.
The nights so dark that you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face, but you could see a million stars across the sky.
The lace curtains on the guest bedroom windows. The rush of cool air that flowed into that room when grandma threw a window open.
A full tummy usually from fried chicken or roast or ham with corn, okra, green beans and mashed potatoes.
That secure feeling of knowing they were just around the corner from us in their room.
The bathroom that always smelled like pink lotion and roses.
The other bathroom that smelled like a recently lit match and had a razor strap hanging on a nail.
The wail of coyotes out in the pasture.
When I get that far along, I am usually peaceful enough to fall asleep.
I think you will all love this beautiful imagery. However, if you do not understand that the lit match in the bathroom did NOT mean preparation for an arson event, don’t ask me; ask your gramdpa! “D
Congratulations, Teral, on your very well accomplished career in all that computer tech stuff; now write me something else.
