WHAT I NEED…

Yesterday afternoon I pulled up to Lowes determined to finish my goals for the day. Breathing deeply I adjusted the seat to give more leg room for me and my shadow (oxygen tank). As I glanced out my open door, my eyes took in a beautiful sight. A gleaming black and orange lawnmower with a sign, about five thousand dollars! No man nor seed spreader was attached.

My first thought, “there was a time I could have gone in and wrote a check for that.” Quickly came my second thought, “Do you need it now?” “Uhh, no, I couldn’t use it if I had it.” “Oh, what do you need now?” “I needed the $28 dollars I just spend at the Dollar Tree.”

“Give us this day, our daily bread.”

No man or seed spreader attached to the one I saw.

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

Wow! $5000! I look with great desire every time I go to “my Lowes” near my home, at the ZTR lawn mowers. But even though they are “only” about $3000, my wife points out that hiring a young man to mow my lawn for $35 would take 85 mowings to pay for the creature, and we only have him mow about 15 times per season; i.e., it would take over 5 YEARS to pay for itself! Plus, he does other things like collecting the grass, edging the fence and walks and blows off the paved areas.
So I don’t get to buy a new toy that I would love to ride around the yard. 😢

I wonder if I’m right about the price. Maybe it was $3500 rather than $5300. I also prefer having someone mow and clean up, but Roger is a lawn fanatic. He will not let someone else mow. In the past we had Teen Challenge guys do it. That was good for us.
