Okay, the last bit of wisdom I can share before election day.
Kevin McCarthy’s blueprint sets four goals: creating “an economy that’s strong,” “a nation that’s safe,” “a future that’s built on freedom” and “a government that’s accountable.” I can understand that; I agree with those.
Have a look at President Biden’s speech last week. What did he talk about? Democracy. I don’t remember hearing much about democracy before that. Since then it is loud and clear; at least loud and often. But what does it mean? Show me statistics that indicate the USA is in need of democracy. Does democracy mean that I will able to support myself via meaningful work? Does democracy mean we will live under the confines of the Constitution? Show me what you mean? Dictionary definition:
- Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives.
- A political or social unit that has such a government.
- The common people, considered as the primary source of political power.
- .
- We will start by looking at the “commitments” one by one.
An economy that’s strong. That’s jobs to support families….taxpayers to pay the disabled….low inflation rates. I can look it up. Find out how we are doing.
A nation that’s safe. I understand that. We have laws and the proper procedure to insure obedience to them, including rehabilitation if possible and punishment if necessary. I can find stats to show me how well we are doing. A nation that’s safe has to have protection locally and world wide, so we have to maintain a strong military.
A future that is built on freedom. Historically the Constitution has provided a reliable foundation for freedom, particularly of speech, gun ownership, and religion.
A government that’s accountable. Due process, innocent unless proven guilty, warrants, judges, FBI, Supreme Court, freedom of the press, Treasury Department…a lot of issues here. I have a lot of criticism of the Justice Department the last decade or so. Not since James Comey smirked about being able to “trick” the White House by setting a trap for the new Trump administration. Then finding that the Press will lie, cover-up, fake it in all manner of ways.
Now you might take issue with some of that. That’s okay and helps prove my point that you or I can probably prove our point by looking at the stats.
Well, I have worked my way back to “Democracy” the current word for Democrat’s slogans. Who can say “I’m not for democracy?” Why are the Democrats using that issue to gain votes? Are they questioning the validity of the 2020 election results? I would understand the GOP doing that, but the Dems won, so why are they using that as a crowd pleaser now! Maybe in anticipation of the next election? Or is it a demand that non-citizens should vote? Or groundwork against Voter ID?
I’ve never maintained that Dems are short on schemes! They can outwit, outbuy and outlie my side every time!
I once had a World Civilization prof in college who was a devout Christ-follower. He said, politics is one of the least effective areas for Christian activity, and the higher in the echelons one goes, the less effective anyone can be because God has ordained certain events to occur to wrap out history on His timetable. That said, he did not discourage Christians from involvement in politics, but warned to be wary of expecting that electing the “right” officials would change the course of a nation.
Of course, “righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) And so we should invest in voting for those who will do what is “right” and serve in whatever elected position Father opens for us.

Well said. Prayers will not change the events on God’s agenda, but they will affect the timing – as we understand time. Example is Ninevah. When Ninevah repented (Jonah) they did not fall until a hundred years later.
I wonder if the Dems truly understand what a real democracy is. It is the next thing to anarchy, with everyone’s voice demanding to be heard. Ancient Greece tried it, and they were easily overrun by the Romans because Greece was a disorganized, unruly mob.
America is a democracy IN A REPUBLIC! We govern not by whose voice is the loudest, but by the election of people to represent our voices in Congress. If you want your views to be heard, then YOU must take initiative to contact your representatives at the local, state and federal level. If they don’t hear from us, they will simply vote their own opinions. Their job is to stand for us, not for themselves. OUR job is to tell them what we want.
We hear a lot about mandating term limits. An educated electorate already has that power. We can vote anyone out of office when the time comes. We must, however, take the responsibility to educate ourselves about what is going on behind the very closed doors of the legislative branch of our government. Ignorance begets tyranny.
Thank you for saying that. To reveal what goes on behind closed doors. That has been the reason for freedom of the Press. But when they “fake” it, we live with the results.
Kudos for your perceptions of how our democratic republic works.
What they want, I think, is Chicago-style democracy, where you vote for the Democrat of your choice.
The Democrats have been playing a long game that started in 2000 with Al Gore refusing to accept the election results in Florida until we went through this whole pageant of counts and recounts until the court told them they had to stop. They’re resetting our expectations from us learning who won on election night to us having to wait until they’re finished with their cheating to know the results of the election. This year is, they hope, the coup de grace after 2020, where a Red Wave was predicted, only to have everything go the other way. I expect more of the same shenanigans this time around, which, if they happen, I’ll just stay home on future election days and clean my guns.
I used to live in Chicago, and I voted there then. I probably am still voting there… I wonder how I’m voting there. Chicago had already mastered the art of election fraud by 1960, but the expansion of absentee voting created more opportunities for fraud two years ago. I hope that tomorrow the poll watchers are on their toes and at the top of their game in Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. True democracy involves real people getting involved in government. Biden’s democracy includes imaginary people getting involved in government. J.
