Celessa heard his clumsy steps. Her husband, Allo, the hero. The party goer, the entertainer, the man of the hour! For three years now this had been the pattern. He would spruce up, call for Charles, his driver. Go to location. Tell Charles to be back in six hours because he would be too drunk to drive.
Charles and Celessa fit their activities right into the schedule. Charles was in the servant quarters by the time Allo got to bed. Celessa would dutifully whine and sob a bit to let Allo know he had been missed.
He is drunk; she is bleary-eyed!
A drama. Life of an elite!

ABOUT ME
Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...
A life of deception, and loneliness. An old fashioned drama where the woman is being taken advantage of by both the hero and the driver.
And she is a fool to think she has the sweet life.
There may come a time when six hours is not enough for the lovers
A game changer. But everybody seems to be satisfied so why change?
It makes them elite in their own eyes, but not mine. When they openly and blatantly ignore the law, ignore moral standards of behavior, because they can pay their way out of any mess, then they do not deserve my respect.
Justice delayed does not mean forgiven nor forgotten. A very sad lonely life of the soul.
like they say, we make do with what we have.
Too many do just that, even when so much more is offered to them.
I think Charles is the only one who makes out well in this situation. I bet he gets a Christmas bonus, too.
Yes, I think you are right. Two of them, in fact.
Seems that everyone is happy. In one way or another anyway.
I just can’t conceive of “bleary-eyed” contentment, nor of letting a bit of wine in the middle of the night let me sell out for so little! Wish I could convince them that life after life is worth waiting for.
