WHAT IS “NOTHING?”

Quote:  Elizabeth Elliott “How much faith does it take to believe in God?  Less, I venture to say-a great deal less-than to believe in the Unconscious generating the Conscious, Mindlessness creating Mind, Nothing giving birth to Something.”

My comment in support of statement:  It is much easier to believe in an All Being Eternal Creator than a “nothing”.  Most people would image “nothing” as space, at least.  But “nothing” is not even space – even a vacuum is not “nothing.”  Tell me, how can that be?  An eternal God is possible – “Nothing” is not.  Everything mind can conceive demands time and space.

Can someone tell me where my thinking is going wrong?  If the “big bang” created the world out of nothing, what was “nothing?”

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

I’ve heard it said many times that it takes much greater faith to NOT believe in the Almighty God than to believe in His existence. These great scientists and archaeologists use all of their human taught, scientific methodology to try to prove that ‘Big Bang’ theory, for as you and I both know, God was kicked out of our learning institutions long ago. But even though that’s the case, what’s happening in a lot if these ‘discovery’ expeditions, is that rather than disprove the existence of God, these Big Bang theorists are instead finding concrete proof of His existence, blowing their theories out of the water!
No, not you my friend – you’re not wrong in your thinking. And in enough time, all those others will change their thinking. Remember Christ saying in Romans 14:11 “It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ”
That’s something to believe in right there.
GREAT POST sweet sister! Very thought provoking!! I’ll hush now lol. Hugs. 😉

I personally have no problem with the BIG BANG. If as the Bible states their was void and the Spirit hovered over this void then GOD SPOKE…..Can you image what would happen if out of a void the Almighty Voice spoke……I once told a group of kids there would be nothing more shattering ever before……A big Bang…….Bigger than that…..A sound that split, shook, shattered and brought into being ……creation!. Even a great scientist in recent days made a comment….Any living creature – man included who believes they have a brain greater than Gods must be mad because no human brain not with all its knowledge could contain everything……….Just a thought. Thank you Oneta. I too better hush now. lol. Blessings.

I would not argue that there was no “big bang” when God spoke the earth into existence, but God (Spirit) existed before the “big bang.” Thanks for commenting.

I just keep thinking it all fits together somehow and I’ll never know the answer. BUT there is an answer. Of that I’m sure!

  4. What a big question. What was nothing? Sometimes I think so much that my little human mind gets hot trying to figure it out *and I know I can’t.

  5. Oh, how my mind has gone round and round on this very topic of nothingness! What was there before there was something? I enjoyed your post!

I have to conclude there has been something forever. That something must be an Eternal God. Presence, I have noticed that you are visiting my blog some. I appreciate it. I will be checking you out also.
