ELEVEN-FORTY FIVE SHARP!

Howie Smith, senior deacon in the Community Church called Pastor Peter P. Pagent.

“The boat’s at the church all set to go. Shorten your sermon. I leave by 11:45.”

“Fret not thyself; I’ll quit before 11:45.”

“OK, see you in the morning. Take a bag lunch.”

…..Voice from Heaven: “What if my message is not finished?”

“Uhh, uhh. You see, Lord, Howie is getting pretty old, he might fall in and drown if someone is not there to rescue him. Not exactly “ox in the ditch” but pretty close, isn’t it? And we will say grace for the food.”

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

  1. This is delightful! Such a great take on the prompt! Kudos.

  2. James McEwan says:

Any excuse to get out church early, if you ask me.

  3. Very cute and a commentary on how we all rationalise what we want. Nicely done!

  4. Bill says:

    Anything is possible. 🙂

  5. granonine says:

Gave me a smile. Being a PK, I could. think of at least two situations like this in my dad’s ministry.

  6. Iain Kelly says:

Surely He will be flexible, they deserve an early finish once in a while!

  7. msjadeli says:

Talking the talk and walking the walk are two very different things. The Pastor knows the difference. God taught him well. I like the message of your story, Oneta.

Thanks for the comment, msjadeli. You are kind to make comments to so many FF entries. Bless you.

      • msjadeli says:

Oneta, I enjoy reading the stories and I pretty much comment on all stories each week unless the writers never comment on mine. Then I might read them but not comment. As Rochelle has said a time or two, “reciprocation is the life of this challenge.” (paraphrasing)
