“I believe with all my heart that standing up for America means standing up for the God who has so blessed our land. We need God’s help to guide our nation through stormy seas. But we can’t expect Him to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him on the shelf in our day-to-day living.”

A group leaves to go to Haiti on a working missions trip. The thought (prayer) formed in my mind “Go with God.” This group is going with God; therefore, God will go with them. So, Haiti helpers, “Go with God” and “God go with you and bless you.”
“God go with you” or “God bless you” has been a routine blessing to say to someone; often even when we believe they are making a mistake. It is true that we want God’s protection to go with them, but we are not blessing their actions. Sometimes a more appropriate prayer might be “God stop you in your tracks,” but we do not have courage enough to say that.
I love the song “God Bless America,” but do I really want God to bless America in the midst of her sin. I really want America to repent, then be blessed. So far I still sing/say/pray that because I believe “those who are with us are greater than those who are not.” God bless America and bring us in unity to honor you with our attitudes and actions.
In light of eternity, we might be “blessed” with things that bring suffering!

Note again the quote above and ask, “Can we ask God to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him on the shelf in our day-to-day living?”

Amen, I love this post. So, God is amazing storm preparation, but you have to stock up on some living water. He will indeed bail us out and send a rescue, it is just so much easier on us if we can avoid those kind of dire circumstances.
And yes, America is like that too! “Can we ask God to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him on the shelf in our day-to-day living?” Well, we probably can ask, and we probably should, it’s just that best way to avoid wandering in the desert for 40 years, is to turn to Him first. 🙂
Yes, it is so much easier to learn one’s lesson quickly and up close to God. Did you ever notice that spankings are much harder when the child is pulling away from the father? If you hug his leg there isn’t much leverage!
oh for such a leader as Reagan!!!!!!
We have a close one. Not as smooth, however, he is bold and determined and loves his country and respects God.
Yes, the Lord disciplines those He loves. So if we as a nation are living in sin, He may bless us, but we will probably not enjoy the blessing.
Blessings often come in a form that demands submission, humility, and obedience. Not often sought after. 😀
All nations of this world will be one day judged and they will be judged not on how powerful or wonderful they are or were but for their relationship with the ONE who came to save ALL People. This side of eternity with its Kingdoms and Nation Building are only significant if God is the foundation. The decisions leaders make are VITAL. Are they leading where God wants them to lead. (Our latest P.M. made his maiden speech in Parliament. He has a long and proud Christian Heritage. Will he be allowed to lead where he believes Australia should go or will the (party////) behind him pull him down? All of the American Presidents (sadly) and more so in 2018 can be completely pulled to pieces by rising deception and people fuelled by self interest. Cheers. and indeed God Bless America! .
Thank you.
“God stop you in your tracks”–that’s a wonderful, even powerful prayer. I might not say it to someone, but I could surely pray it silently, and know it will still reach the Throne. Blessings to you, Oneta ❤
The shock value might get through; maybe it would still them long enough for God to speak to them. 😀
Maybe 🙂
Great post Oneta! And so very timely.
Thanks, Faye. We are closing in on “E” day. Praying for God’s mercy, grace, and blessings – not so much his justice. 😀
