OUCH, THAT HURT

OUCH, THAT HURT! So I got a bruise and a bit of battering, but only for a little while. No blood, no broken bones, no jerky joints, no head hurtles. Just a terrible wham on my shoulder.

There is a reason I am recounting my intimate encounter with the floor. I’ll get to that. First, the story.

I was working on my front patio. Project: Baby in the Manger, Angel and Donkey looks on. I needed stuff from the car.

So back through the house and to the garage, I go. Grab sacks from seat, head back – all’s well so far – open screen door and utility door, step up, oops! I’m crashing. Fell on the left side sprawled between the two open doors. I turn myself right side up. No serious damage except that I can’t get up. Nope. So I sit on the step between garage and utility room, one door open behind me, the other open in front of me.

Carl, son, had called a bit before to say that he and his wife, Vicky, were coming by. Sammy was putting in windows in a house in Yukon. I have my cell with me but I’m not hurt enough to call neighbors or EMTs. I call Carl and ask how long before he arrives. After being told my plight, he said they would come as quickly as possible. About 15 minutes.

So I sat on that cold step and waited.

Now what did I make such a to-do over the doors for? Because that storm door was wanting to close on me and I was in the way. I had to hold it open. …. Crash! A folding chair fell from someplace near my right side where I was holding the door open. Aw, just what I needed to prop the door open so I didn’t have to hold it. So prop it I did.

In recent posts I have been talking to you about knowing God. Seeking his face. Recognizing Him when He is near. Finding Him.

So what about the chair falling from somewhere? I don’t know where it fell from. I assume it was propped up by the storage shelves on that side of me, behind the open door. There is another one still there. Did God notice? Did He decide to have the chair fall so I could reach it? I don’t know, but I give Him credit for my good blessing/fortune/luck. I thanked Him. Even if it was for the law of gravity that made the chair fall. However, I’m puzzled at the timing. Why did it not fall when I did, when the door was flung back? There were several minutes there when I sat myself up, surveyed the damage, called my son. And the chair didn’t fall until I need it for a prop.

A second thing I was thankful for. I had left the front door open when I came in from the patio. Otherwise Carl would have been locked out since I could not get up to open a door for him. Hummm.

Third thing for which to be thankful. It didn’t hurt all that bad.

Fourth thing. I’ve got a rotten bruise to prove my story.

Resolution: I am going to get one of those “fall alert” things. You know those the old folks use when they have to say, “Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.”

About oneta hayes

ABOUT ME Hello. To various folks I am Neat’nee, Mom, Grandma Neta, Gramma, Aunt Neta, Aunt Noni, Aunt Neno, and Aunt Neto (lots of varieties from little nieces and nephews). To some I’m more like “Didn’t you used to be my teacher?” or “Don’t I know you from someplace?” To you, perhaps, I am a Fellow Blogger. Not “fellow” like a male or a guy, but “fellow” like a companion or an adventurer. I would choose to be Grandma Blogger, and have you pull up a chair, my website before you, while I tell you of some days of yore. I have experienced life much differently than most of you. It was and is a good life. I hope to share nuggets of appreciation for those who have gone before me and those who come after me. By necessity you are among those who come after me and I will tell you of those who came before. Once upon a time in a little house on a prairie - oops, change that lest I commit plagiarism - and change that “house on the prairie” to “dugout on the prairie.” So my story begins...

Whoever wants the credit can have it. I am thankful that you are OK. Take care Oneta. Rust of falling in old age is quite high. No one wants to be bed ridden with broken bones. The alert seems to be a good decision.
Hope the bruise disappears soon and you have a wonderful Christmas.

Risk of falling, not rust of falling. Google autocorrect will one day kill someone.

  3. Wow!!! Now that is a bruise for sure! What a pickle—but God was in the midst of that pickle!
    What a joy!!
But reading the tale, I was afraid you were going to say the chair fell on you, adding insult to injury—but no, you relayed the story of God suppling a need when a need was most needed!

I fell up the back steps Saturday after Gregory had just told me to be careful as I tend to accident prone—as I defiantly announce that I am NOT accident prone, trip I go.
I screwed my already screwed up knee a bit more—

Could have been worse—nothing is broken—YAY for us both!!!

What I used to think was fortune or luck, like that falling chair for you, I now credit to God as well.

Oh Oneta! I’m glad you are OK. My mom fell this summer (she’s 89)..broke her wrist, ribs and leg..took a LONG.. LONG time to get back on track..but she’s back. The body is an amazing thing.

  6. What a fall! Glad you survived and all is well. I think I need to get one of those “fall alert” things as well. The fun of getting older.

    Blessings.

God’s provision often amazes. I am thankful you are ok. Getting the fall alert thingy sounds like a good plan while you still have such mobility. Take Care! Blessings. Hope you get what is VITAL sorted for Christmas. I have still in simplicity to get out tree and hope I can still reach to put an angel on the top. Peace! and Love to you!

I’ve cancelled my Christmas plans so it seems like I did a lot of work without much cause. But I am enjoying it even without others. There will be some who come by, I imagine. Yes it is rather hard to decorate when you can’t reach below two feet or higher than your hear. 😀

  8. Nice to know that God controls the law of gravity.

SO glad to read you weren’t hurt, Oneta! Glory to God in the small things as well as the unexplainable and the big stuff.

Oh my goodness, Oneta! That is a terrible looking bruise. Glad you weren’t hurt worse from the fall, and that you had help coming quickly. ❤

  11. Oh, my! Praise the Lord that’s you’re okay! God bless.

  12. Praise the Lord that you are okay. God is always on the job. Yes, He sent you the chair. Even if some folks would dismiss it as “gravity” – He is the one who created gravity! And as for the timing…God is always on time and always on our side. May He continue to bless and protect you.
